In the sky
Half of the visible disc is illuminated again, now with the light decreasing. This Moon is often seen late at night and in the morning. Following the light over successive days helps distinguish it from first quarter; its apparent orientation also depends on where you observe it.

Symbolic meaning
Half-lit and waning — a turning point of release. It is time to forgive, break patterns and clear what no longer serves before the cycle closes.
The last quarter symbolises a review of the standards by which you live and act. After gathering experience, you can ask which commitments still express your values. Releasing something here can mean completing it, reducing its place in your life or choosing a more fitting way to continue.
Work with this phase
Make three columns: keep, complete and release. Place your current commitments where they belong and choose one unfinished matter you can close. For anything you release, name the practical boundary: cancel an unnecessary task, return an object or say clearly what you can offer. Leave a manageable amount for the cycle's final days.

Journal Reflections
Release one thing — an object, a grudge, or a habit.
Which commitment still fits my values? What can I complete or release so that I have room to begin again?
Tradition and sources
The symbolism of the eight stages draws on twentieth-century humanistic astrology. These exercises offer a personal way to work with the cycle. Here you can explore both the astronomical observations and the sources of the tradition.
