In the sky
Only a thin crescent remains, most readily seen before sunrise towards the eastern sky. It grows slimmer as the Moon approaches the Sun's direction. The cycle will return to new Moon; the next evening crescent will belong to a new cycle.

Symbolic meaning
The last thin light before the dark — the cycle's rest. Energy is at its lowest; surrender, reflect, heal, and let your quiet imagination prepare the next beginning.
The final phase is also called balsamic in modern lunar astrology. Its image is the seed carrying the experience of the whole cycle into a quieter interval. The emphasis is on distilling meaning, allowing closure and making room for what has not yet taken shape. Rest becomes part of the cycle's rhythm.
Work with this phase
Set aside a brief quiet interval and close your cycle notes with three lines: what I lived, what I learned and what I leave here. Reduce one optional demand on your time. If a new idea appears, write a few words and let it rest until you revisit your intention at the next new Moon.

Tradition and sources
The symbolism of the eight stages draws on twentieth-century humanistic astrology. These exercises offer a personal way to work with the cycle. Here you can explore both the astronomical observations and the sources of the tradition.
